'Tsurumi River is one of the water systems in Kanagawa Prefecture, designated as a first-class river by the MLIT. The total length of the river is approximately 42.5km. Four major primary tributaries (Yagami River, Hayabuchi River, Okuma River, and Onda River) join the main stream of Tsurumi River, which originates in the Kami-Oyamada area of Machida City, and cross densely populated areas to the sea. 85% of the Tsurumi River watershed area is urban area, and the population density (1.96 million) within the watershed of the entire 109 water system is the highest in Japan.'

'In addition to these, the typical sounds associated with the city are very realistic decorations of the urban river flavor - for example, sounds of running vehicles and trains, flight sounds of transport aircraft, echoes from bridges, aeolian sounds created by power lines across the river, the creaking of boats moored at floating piers, the bustle of passersby, and the music of festivals.
